In a recent attempt to clean up my studio space, I came across a box of oil pastels. A friend of mine had given them to me when she was moving away. I decided to play around with them only to find myself disappointed and remember why I was not fond of oil pastels. They were dry, and wouldn’t blend well. I was frustrated. Around the same time, I was watching videos by Blackbean CMS. He does a lot of work with oil pastels( stunning work!). In the videos he reviewed several brands and I realized that maybe I was using the wrong type of oil pastels. I decided to try a a higher quality brand and finally, I settled on Monte Marte. It was in the medium price range in comparison to some of the others like Paul Rubens and Sennelier. Check out the video above to see my final thoughts.
