Surface Design Projects
I became interested in surface design through scrapbooking. There were always two very separate parts to my process: 1. acquiring and admiring the supplies ( hopefully not hoarding them) and 2. creating with the supplies. While in the craft and scrapbook industry, I met and worked with many talented designers. Despite all the wonderful products available, there were times when I couldn’t find the right designs for my scrapbook pages. I dabbled with making scrapbook papers but despite my dreams of designing my own scrapbook line, It didn’t go much further than individual projects. Fast forward to now. I am not doing much scrapbooking these days. My focus is more on art and mixed media projects. Once again, I can’t always find the right collage paper or fabric to match my creative vision. Creating custom designs was the answer for me. Now I am in a very satisfying cycle of acquiring, admiring, and creating while iterating on past work. This portfolio will share that cycle with you.
The Process
I use my paintings to create custom fabrics. In some cases, I manipulate photographs of the paintings to create new designs. This video details that process.
