About

About the Artist

Christy is a self-taught mixed media artist. She works primarily with paint, ink, and thread.

Her work is a balance between the subconscious and the physical world. She still isn’t sure quite where she fits in, causing her to question how social and cultural norms have affected her life and the lives of the people she cares about. She uses her art as a vehicle to explore mental health within her role as wife, friend, and mother.

She is happiest at home where she can make art or spend time in the world of video games.

Christy has also worked in the craft and scrapbook industry. You can find her work related to memory keeping at MyScrapbookEvolution.com or view her full resume here.

I began experimenting with art as a child. By the time I was a teenager, I was exploring painting, textile art, and jewelry making as hobbies. Upon high school graduation, I chose to seek a degree in Biology and Environmental Science. I was as mesmerized by the natural world as I was to the arts. Plus a science career seemed more practical than the career of full-time artist. Art became more of a hobby which at times was quite neglected.  After becoming a mother, I wanted to return to being creative. I chose memory keeping because I felt that documenting my family’s story had a sense of productive purpose. Through memory keeping, I began to study the principles of design and composition. Eventually, this study led me back to painting and textile arts.

CES Art Evolution Lab was founded in November 2022 when I decided to take my work from the art journal to the canvas.

Though the world of fine art and the world of crafts is often segregated, I have chosen to acknowledge both together. Without scrapbooking, I would not have explored design or composition. I have learned skills and used non-traditional tools in my art journaling practice that I bring into my mixed media art.

About CES Art Evolution Lab

While brainstorming ideas for studio names, I realized that I wanted to found a creative studio that was not just for my creative growth but that would also help others to grow and flourish regardless of their skill level. The Art Evolution Lab was founded to inspire, encourage, and foster collaboration through creativity. I believe we should all be creating something. Creative practices help to foster critical thinking skills while promoting positive mental health. We need both of these to adapt to our changing world.

The Goals of the Art Evolution Lab:

  • Collaboration: Collaboration allows us to share our skills with others while stepping outside our comfort zone. We grow the creative community while also uplifting one another. Contact me if you have a project idea!
  • Inspire and Encourage: By sharing my art and the things that inspire me, I hope to encourage you to start your creative practice.
